Decentralized Identifiers

Decentralized Identifiers are identifiers that don't rely on centralized issuers or authorities to provide the identifier or the infrastructures and systems that make the identifier useful.

DIDs make use of distributed systems and cryptographic proofs and could be used whenever an identifier is needed, and because no central authority is involved, individuals control their own DIDs.
